Van Training with RI NOW

  • 22 Wampanoag Trail Riverside, RI, 02915 United States (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

The purpose of this event is to support our 2018 endorsed candidates, help anyone working on any campaigns, and provide an opportunity for anyone to learn. The "VAN" is the Voter Activation Network. Candidates use this to build lists-- to canvas, fundraise, and get out the vote.

We are lucky that Gus Bickford will be joining us to lead the training. Currently serving as Chairman of the Massachusetts Democratic Party, Gus Bickford has a long history of working in Democratic politics. Specializing in Survey Research and Database Targeting, he is the Principal of Factotum Productions, Inc. He has administered voter contact programs for the Democratic Parties of Connecticut, Florida, Maine, New Hampshire, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and for the Presidential Campaigns of John Kerry ’04, Barack Obama ’08 and ‘12 and Hillary Clinton in ’08. With 22 years of expertise with large databases and refining the information they provide, Gus worked on the team that created the National Voter File (VoteBuilder) for the Democratic National Committee. Prior to founding Factotum Productions, Gus served as a Vice President and Director of Systems Integration for Predictive Networks and for 5 years as Executive Director of the Massachusetts Democratic Party. Gus is a graduate of Brown University with a degree in Organizational Behavior.

We will provide a pizza dinner. Participants will need to bring their own device on which to use VAN. If you don't have the VAN you can share with someone who does or watch Gus' presentation onscreen.

$25 to anyone else who attends, and $20 to RI NOW members who attend. (This will be free for our newly endorsed candidates).

Winning Women: RI NOW PAC Fundraiser for 2018 Candidates

winning-women-3.jpg

Please join us on Monday, May 14th for food, drink, and great conversation as we raise money to support all endorsed candidates in 2018!

Purchase tickets here.

The RI NOW PAC endorses candidates who agree with our goal to bring women into full participation in all aspects of public and private life without experiencing barriers based on gender. It is our core belief that, in order for women to do this, there must be:
1) both the right and the access to a full range of reproductive health care options,
2) equal opportunity on the road to economic prosperity,
3) equal civil rights regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity,
4) freedom from violence in all forms, and
5) a commitment to equality, including racial, economic and gender justice and equality.

We are very lucky to have Jennifer Lawless join us from Washington, DC as our keynote speaker. Professor Lawless is the Director of the Women & Politics Institute. She is an expert on women running for office, and political ambition more generally-- with ties to Rhode Island as well.

At the event we will also hold a silent auction, featuring lunches with previously endorsed electeds and products from women-owned businesses.

Finally, we will announce the five RI NOW PAC-endorsed candidates for statewide office (Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney General, General Treasurer, and Secretary of State), and they will share some words with those in attendance as well.

Those who give at the Governor and Lt. Governor levels will be publicly recognized (including PAC to PAC donations), and receive other benefits to be announced soon.

You don't want to miss what will be one of the most exciting, fun, and meaningful events in the spring Rhode Island political scene!

Senate Hearing for Net Neutrality Legislation

30698729_193313024782658_4678795056551773746_n.png

Come testify in support of passing a Net Neutrality law in Rhode Island. The Senate Commerce Committee has scheduled the hearings for S 2008 on Thursday 4/26/18 starting at 3:30pm. Make your voice heard, and help us show how overwhelmingly popular restoring Net Neutrality is to all Rhode Islanders.

We know the telecoms lobby has been pushing hard to make sure we don't pass a law. We need your help to make sure they aren't able to get their way, and price gouge consumers while controlling what information users can and cannot access.

Come prepared with one or two minutes of testimony (speak to what you know and make it relatable) or bring copies of written testimony to be given to the committee members.

Contact NetNeutralityRI@gmail.com with questions, to receive talking points, or get more information about the campaign to pass Net Neutrality RI.

Come lobby legislators in support of passing a Net Neutrality law in Rhode Island. We will be meeting at the Rhode Island State House on Thursday 4/5/18 at 3:30pm.

Rhode Islanders deserve a open and fair internet. We need your help to stop the telecoms lobby from charging exploitive prices and picking and choosing what you can see on the web.

Paid Family Leave Campaign: Day of Action

28337038_1290223584411598_5136263517518623941_o.jpg

Join us in the RI State House library (2nd floor) on March 29 at 3pm as we introduce legislation that will improve one of Rhode Island's most successful programs: the Temporary Caregiver Insurance Program (TCI).

Rhode Island was a leader in creating one of the nation’s first paid leave programs for its workers in TCI. We can continue to lead the nation by making it even better!

Legislation introduced by Representative Blazejewski (H-7544) & Senator Goldin (S-2470) would improve the program by:
• Increasing the number of weeks a worker can use from four to six weeks in 2019 (and up to eight weeks in 2020)
• Expanding the category of qualifying family members to include grandchildren and siblings
• Increasing the amount workers can receive when they claim TCI

Join us and advocate for hard-working Rhode Islanders! To learn more about our campaign to improve paid family leave in Rhode Island visitwww.economicprogressri.org/paidleave
